Goule de Foussoubie

The Goule de Foussoubie is a cave entrance in Labastide-de-Virac that provides access to an underground network spreading across several kilometers. The system features various galleries with a significant elevation difference between its deepest and highest points.

Explorers examined the cave system in its early days and discovered the extensive underground network. These initial investigations laid the groundwork for understanding this significant geological formation.

The entrance displays three holes carved into the limestone and scattered across the gallery. These traces suggest that people worked here in ancient times.

The cave system is home to specialized animals found only in this karst environment, including colorless crustaceans and endemic amphipods. These rare life forms show how caves form completely isolated ecosystems with their own distinct wildlife.
