Château du Champ, Medieval castle in Altier, France
The Château du Champ sits on a rocky ridge with two defensive towers arranged in a U-shaped layout. It is located within the Cevennes National Park boundary.
The fortress was built between 1288 and 1308 and underwent changes during the Renaissance period. It gained registered historical monument status in 1942.
The interior spaces display Renaissance paintings and wooden staircases that replaced the original stone spiral steps. These elements shape how the place feels when you move through it.
The castle is privately owned and not open for regular public visits. It is best viewed and photographed from the exterior.
In 2005, the castle served as a filming location for the French film 'Saint-Jacques... La Mecque' directed by Coline Serreau. This brought the site to the attention of cinema audiences.
