Pont des Templiers

The Pont des Templiers is a medieval bridge in Longjumeau with three stone arches that span an ancient path. The structure still displays the Templar cross carved into its masonry.

The bridge was built in the 12th century and was part of the Commandery of Balizy, an important settlement of the Knights Templar. It served as a central element in a network of estates that this military order controlled in France.

The bridge carries the name of the Templars and still shows traces of their medieval presence in the area. Visitors can experience at this location the historical connection to an important order that played a significant role in the region for centuries.

The bridge is located in the wooded park area of Bois des Templiers-Balizy and is accessible via marked walking paths. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the paths lead through natural terrain with some hills.

The bridge remains the only visible remnant of the former Templar estate and stands within a wooded area containing numerous buried archaeological traces. The surroundings still hold evidence of this medieval community beneath the surface.
