Clocher porche de Mimizan, Gothic bell tower in Mimizan, France

Clocher porche de Mimizan is a square brick structure featuring a large arched entrance portal with an octagonal spire at its crown. The spire is covered with chestnut shingles that create a distinctive layered appearance.

Built in the 12th century as part of a former Benedictine priory, the tower served as both a bell tower and entrance gate. It remains the most significant surviving structure from this religious complex.

The entrance portal displays medieval sculptures showing biblical scenes that remain visible in the architecture today. These depictions make this place a notable example of religious artwork typical of the region.

The tower is easily accessible on foot near Saint-Mary Church in central Mimizan. Visitor access varies by season, so checking current opening times beforehand is recommended.

The facade features painted decorations from the 15th century depicting scenes of Christ's Passion across its surface. These artworks represent rare examples of medieval painted panels on a church porch.
