Commanderie des Andrivaux, Medieval commandry in Chancelade, France.
Commanderie des Andrivaux is a medieval commandry near Chancelade featuring structures from different periods. The complex comprises three buildings: the main residence, a pavilion, and a farmhouse, with a crypt inside that has three window openings.
The commandry was founded in 1139 by Bishop Geoffroy de Cauze and became one of the most important Templar centers in the Perigord region. After the Templars dissolved in 1307, the Knights Hospitaller took over management of the property.
The basement displays a coat of arms with three fleurs-de-lis representing faith, wisdom, and knighthood. These symbols reflect the values that mattered to the community who lived here.
The site is located at the intersection of the Templars Path and Andrivaux Road and now operates as a seasonal rental property. Visitors should know that the grounds contain multiple separate structures that can be explored across the area.
The site originated as a Benedictine nunnery around the year 1000, long before it became a Templar commandry. This early religious past remains evident in the oldest structures found on the grounds.
