Fort de Vaise

Fort de Vaise stands on a rocky outcrop in Loyasse, overlooking the Saône River and surrounding plains from the north. The site contains exhibition halls and event spaces, including a panoramic terrace that offers views across the river landscape.

The fort was built between 1830 and 1834 under Marshal Hubert Rohault de Fleury as part of Lyon's first line of defensive fortifications. It was designed as a strategic stronghold controlling the city's northern approach.

The Renaud Foundation displays works by regional artists, primarily from the 19th and 20th centuries, offering insight into Lyon's artistic heritage. Walking through the rooms reveals how the creative scene developed over time.

The site features a panoramic terrace with wide views of the river landscape and is accessible on foot. Visitors should note that the approach to the fort can be steep, so sturdy shoes are advisable.
