Fort du Replaton, Military fort in Modane, France
Positioned at 1210 meters altitude, Fort du Replaton features extensive fortifications designed to protect the French entrance of the Fréjus Rail Tunnel.
Built between 1884 and 1892 for 2 million francs, this Séré de Rivières fortification system incorporated advanced military architectural elements of its time.
The fort maintains its exterior structural integrity, representing a significant example of late 19th-century French military engineering and defensive strategy.
While the fort interior remains closed to visitors, the exterior can be observed through a walking path starting from the town of Loutraz.
The fortress connects to Modane via an aerial tram system and extends to Fort du Sapey at higher elevation through additional transportation infrastructure.
