Fondation Deutsch de la Meurthe, Student residence in Cité internationale universitaire, Paris, France
Fondation Deutsch de la Meurthe is a student residence in Cité internationale universitaire featuring seven buildings. The complex includes six residential pavilions and one central administrative building with a bell tower and clock.
Industrialist Emile Deutsch de la Meurthe and university rector Paul Appell established this as the first residence of Cité internationale universitaire in 1925. It pioneered the network of international student housing that would develop in Paris.
The administrative building features a music room with frescoes by Maurice Guy-Loë and hosts concerts, exhibitions, and conferences. These spaces reflect the international community that lives here and its focus on cultural exchange.
The residence contains 341 rooms of various types along with shared kitchens and common leisure spaces. The buildings are spread across the grounds and can be explored on foot.
The foundation preserves a stone from bastion 82 of Paris's last fortifications, built in 1842 during Louis-Philippe's reign. This modest stone connects the modern international community to a nearly forgotten chapter of the city's past.
