La Savane des esclaves, Historical heritage site in Les Trois-Îlets, Martinique.

La Savane des esclaves is an outdoor museum spread across roughly 3 hectares with reconstructed wooden huts and buildings alongside botanical gardens. The exhibits show how people lived during colonial times in Martinique.

The founder Gilbert Larose created this space to document 400 years of Martinique's history, starting from the Kalinago people through the colonial period. This educational project preserved the memory of different chapters in the island's past.

The site displays traditional Creole architecture through authentic wooden structures that reflect everyday life in past times. The garden showcases local plants that people used for food and healing purposes.

The visit takes you along open grounds with pathways between the reconstructed buildings. Wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection, as there is little shade throughout the site.

Many interactive elements like wooden figures and QR codes invite visitors to learn more. Demonstrations of cassava processing show craft techniques that have been preserved for generations.
