L'Homme aux semelles devant, Bronze sculpture at Port Saint-Bernard, Paris, France
The sculpture depicts Arthur Rimbaud's bust with legs extending forward, measuring 1.5 meters in height and 4 meters in width.
Commissioned by President François Mitterrand in 1984, the artwork was created by Jean-Robert Ipoustéguy and installed in 1988 near Arsenal Library.
The title plays with Verlaine's nickname for Rimbaud, 'man with soles of wind', reflecting the poet's constant travels through physical representation.
Located in the open-air sculpture museum at Jardin Tino Rossi since 2019, the monument stands along the Seine River walking path.
The sculpture combines a dreaming poet's bust separated from forward-projecting legs, representing Rimbaud's dual nature as poet and traveler.
