Lycée International Montebello

Lycée International Montebello is a public secondary school in southern Lille located near the Faubourg des Postes, Moulins, and Wazemmes neighborhoods. The campus spreads across a sizable area and includes classroom buildings, dining facilities, and residence halls for boarding students.

Architect Auguste Mourcou designed the original building in 1859 as a hospital that served the medical needs of the city for many years. The structure was repurposed as an educational institution in 1921 when it began its role as a school.

The school teaches less common languages including Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Greek, Latin, Dutch, Polish, and Portuguese to prepare students for global opportunities. Visitors can sense the international character through the diverse backgrounds and interests of the student body on campus.

The campus is most easily accessed via the Porte des Postes metro station located nearby, making arrival straightforward for visitors. The grounds offer ample space to walk through and explore, with dining options available on-site for those spending extended time there.

The building retains architectural features from the 19th century when it was designed by a notable local architect. Its transformation from a medical facility to an educational center reflects how older structures in Lille have been thoughtfully repurposed to meet evolving community needs.
