Museum of Brittany, Regional museum in Rennes, France.
The Museum of Brittany is a regional institution in Rennes with more than 600,000 artifacts and documents spanning different time periods. The collection includes extensive photographic materials that reveal how regional culture developed and transformed across centuries.
Founded in 1794 during the French Revolution, the institution began by gathering confiscated items from the period. It shared space with the Museum of Fine Arts for many years before moving to its own building in 2006.
The ethnographic collections show traditional Breton furniture, clothing, and everyday objects that illustrate how daily life evolved across generations. Walking through these galleries gives you a sense of how families lived and what mattered most to them in their homes.
The museum is located within the Les Champs Libres cultural complex and offers wheelchair access throughout. The layout is straightforward, making it easy to navigate the galleries at your own pace.
The museum holds around 6,800 items related to the Dreyfus affair, including personal letters and documents. This important collection arrived as a donation from Jeanne Lévy, Alfred Dreyfus's daughter, following an exhibition in 1973.
