Musée de la Publicité, Advertising museum in Louvre Palace, Paris, France
The Musée de la Publicité is an advertising museum inside the Palais du Louvre, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, holding posters, print materials, and film advertisements from several centuries. The collection ranges from 19th-century poster art to present-day digital formats.
The museum was founded in 1978 under a different name and moved several times before finding a permanent home in the Louvre Palace during the 1990s. Its connection to the Louvre complex gave the institution greater visibility and a wider audience.
The collection shows how advertising shaped everyday life in France, from the Belle Époque to the present day. Visitors can see how the portrayal of products and people in commercial images changed over time.
The museum sits inside the Richelieu wing of the Louvre and is reached through the main entrances of the Louvre complex. Visitors already exploring the Louvre can easily combine both visits without much extra walking.
The collection holds over 100,000 posters, most of which are never on public display and remain stored in the archives. Temporary exhibitions draw selectively from this reserve, showing different works each time.
