Ouvrage Bois-Karre

Ouvrage Bois-Karre is a concrete blockhouse located on the Franco-Luxembourg border, built with two combat levels featuring gun emplacements and a turret for machine gun fire. The structure contains working generators and demonstrates the equipment installed for military defense operations.

Built in 1931, the blockhouse became part of France's defensive line and saw action during the 1940 invasion. It was designed as a modern defense system for that period and location.

The fortification shows how France approached border defense in the 1930s and the choices engineers made to protect this specific location. Visitors can see how the structure was designed as a self-contained position, reflecting the military thinking of that era.

The site is located in a remote border area and requires a deliberate visit to access. Bring sturdy footwear and prepare for narrow passages and steep stairs inside the structure.

Unlike larger fortification systems of that era, Bois-Karre was designed as a completely independent structure with no connection to underground galleries or neighboring positions. This isolated approach made it self-reliant for all defense operations.
