Monte Cardo, Mountain summit in Haute-Corse, France

Monte Cardo reaches an elevation of 2,453 meters and features a distinct jagged ridge visible from the Cortenais region of Corsica.

The mountain witnessed two aviation accidents: an Indian National Airlines Bristol crash in 1948 and a Royal Air Force Wellington incident in 1943.

Every August 29, locals gather at the Sant'Eliseu Chapel, situated at 1,555 meters, for an annual religious celebration marking the highest pilgrimage in Corsica.

The hiking trail to Monte Cardo starts at Santo-Pietro-di-Venaco, covering 1,650 meters of elevation gain up to the Sant'Eliseu Chapel.

The eastern slope contains a gray marble formation called Razzo-Bianco, which continues to supply construction materials for regional buildings.
