Restonica Valley

Restonica Valley is a gorge cutting through granite cliffs with clear water streams flowing toward mountain lakes called Melo and Capitello. The landscape offers many spots for swimming and picnicking along the way.

Since ancient times, shepherds used this valley as a crucial route to move their herds between seasonal pastures. This long history shaped it as an important passage and economic lifeline for the mountain region.

The traditional stone shepherds' shelters called bergeries show building methods passed down through Corsican families over centuries. These structures shape how the valley looks and reflect the local mountain way of life.

You can reach the valley via the D623 road from Corte, with parking areas located at different points along the route. Bring plenty of water and sturdy shoes if you plan to hike to the higher lakes.

The valley has chains and metal ladders fixed into the rocks to help hikers climb steep sections safely. These fixed aids make it possible to reach places that would otherwise be hard to access near Lake Melo.
