Oliferne

The Oliferne peak reaches 807 meters in elevation and stands prominently above the Ain Valley, offering extensive views of the Haut-Chaine du Jura mountains.

The Château d'Oliferne, built in 1231 by Count Etienne of Burgundy to control local lords, was later destroyed by Henri IV's troops in the 16th century.

Local folklore tells of three young women who were thrown into the Ain river and transformed into stone pyramids that remain visible near the mountain.

The hiking trail starts from Boutavant hamlet in Vescles, covering 7 kilometers with yellow markings that guide visitors through a 2.5-hour round trip.

A metal seal matrix discovered on the castle slopes suggests the presence of an ecclesiastical figure named Cidonis de Monte-Desiderius during the 16th century.
