Parc Sutter, Urban park in the 1st arrondissement of Lyon, France
Parc Sutter is a small urban park in the Pentes neighborhood of Lyon's 1st arrondissement. It is organized across several terraces that follow the natural slope of the hillside, with entrances from Rue de Vauzelles to the north and Place du Lieutenant-Morel to the south.
The land once belonged to a family named Sutter, and their old house still stands at the edge of the park today. After a fire in the late 1970s, the building passed to the city and changed use several times since then.
Several associations have made the park their home, including Village Sutter, which organizes local gatherings and neighborhood celebrations. A circus company called MPTA also uses the space to run shows and workshops open to the public.
The park is easy to reach on foot or by public transport, as it sits close to the center of Lyon. The terraced layout means some paths are steep, which is worth keeping in mind for visitors with limited mobility.
Before the park took shape, the old Sutter house was home to a community that called itself Moulinsart, a name taken from the castle in the Tintin comics. This link to a fictional world, tucked into an everyday Lyon neighborhood, is little known today.
