Parc de Gerland, Urban park in 7th arrondissement, Lyon, France
Parc de Gerland is an urban park that runs alongside the Rhône River with broad meadows, planted gardens, and hundreds of trees of various species. The layout combines open grass areas with cultivated zones that create a varied landscape throughout the space.
The park was developed between 1997 and 2002 on a former industrial site under the direction of landscape architect Michel Corajoud. This transformation turned an abandoned industrial area into public green space for the community.
The Festival 6e Continent takes place in the park during early June, celebrating world cultures and diversity throughout the Lyon metropolitan area.
The park is open daily and is easily accessible by public transportation, particularly by metro or bus lines near the entrance. The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon when the temperature is more comfortable for walking.
The Megaphorbiaie section features specialized plant areas with marked zones representing different ecosystems. A misting system runs through the grounds and provides cooling relief on warm days for visitors.
