The Puits du Chanois mining complex extends to a depth of 588 meters and includes remaining industrial buildings and coal waste mounds.
Operations at Puits du Chanois began in 1873, reached peak production of 12,587 tons of coal in 1901, and ceased all mining activities in 1958.
The mining site represents the industrial evolution of Haute-Saône region, with former mining quarters that housed military personnel and immigrant workers.
The site maintains several visible industrial remains, including converted buildings and mining waste mounds that visitors can observe from designated areas.
Plans are underway to transform the coal waste mounds into a solar power plant, scheduled for completion by 2025.
