Bourlémont, Mountain summit in Ronchamp, France.
Bourlémont is a summit reaching 474 meters in the Ballons des Vosges Nature Park, located in Haute-Saône. Built from sandstone, the peak carries the modern chapel Notre-Dame-du-Haut and offers views across the Rahin Valley and surrounding countryside.
This summit held religious significance since Roman times, when a temple stood on its heights. Over the centuries the site retained its spiritual purpose, culminating in the modern chapel built in the 1920s.
The Notre-Dame-du-Haut chapel sits within the landscape as a place for reflection and spiritual pause. Visitors and pilgrims experience this location as a focal point for contemplation across different seasons and times of day.
Multiple walking paths reach the summit, including established local trails and the GR 59 long-distance route along the eastern slope. Hikers find the ascent manageable on foot with several route options to choose from based on their preferences.
The chapel was designed by architect Le Corbusier and represents one of his most experimental works in religious architecture. Its organic curves and sculptural forms make it stand out dramatically from traditional church designs of its era.
