Quartier Général-Frère, Military base in 7th arrondissement, Lyon, France

Quartier Général-Frère is a military base on a large plot along the Rhône in Lyon's 7th arrondissement, between avenue Leclerc, rue Gustave-Nadaud, boulevard Yves-Farge and rue des Girondins. It has two zones: a military base and a public zone housing a city daycare centre, the CIRFA recruitment office and the cercle mixte. The main building is a long, low structure with a pale facade, a dark pitched roof, dormer windows and lower wings, behind a tall metal fence.

The site was renamed Quartier Général-Frère in 1968, succeeding the Fort de la Vitriolerie. Its new name honours General Aubert Frère, founder of the Organisation de résistance de l'Armée. The fort's earlier name referred to a vitriol works, a chemical plant, that had occupied the ground before it became a military installation.

The name Vitriolerie, attached to the earlier fort on this site, refers to vitriol works once established here; the sources record the fort de la Vitriolerie as the predecessor of the quartier Général-Frère, renamed in 1968.
