Viaduc de Briare

The Viaduc de Briare is a steel bridge that carries traffic over a canal and river in Briare, connecting both sides of the waterway with a single structure. The bridge extends 170 meters in length and features a prominent central arch that supports the main span above the water.

The Briare Viaduct was completed in 1999 and represents an important development in modern bridge construction techniques. The structure employed new methods and approaches that were innovative for its time of completion.

The French Steel Construction Union awarded the Briare Viaduct the Prize for Most Beautiful Structures in 2000 for its engineering excellence.

The bridge is easily reached from the A77 motorway, located south of exit 20 in the region. Visitors can view the structure from various vantage points to see the construction and arch design from different angles.

The bridge uses a cable-support system connected to the central arch that represents a notable technical solution for its time. This design was considered a significant advancement in span and construction methods when it was completed.
