Église Saint-Georges de Belloy-en-France

The Église Saint-Georges is a Gothic church with a three-bay nave, a five-sided choir, and side aisles topped with elaborate 16th-century vaults. The interior space features clean Gothic lines with intricate stonework that draws the eye upward.

A basilica dedicated to Saint George stood on this site from 840 onward, and the oldest parts of the current building date to the 12th century. The structure continued to evolve over centuries, with the elaborate vaults added during the 16th century.

The western entrance shows a blend of Gothic and Renaissance details with decorative elements that reflect how artistic styles changed over time. These mixed architectural features tell the story of different craftspeople who shaped the building across generations.

The interior is typically open during daylight hours for visitors, and the best time to explore is outside of service times. Watch for narrow passages and uneven floors in the older sections of the building.

The south aisle contains burial slabs depicting Lord Guillaume de Belloy and his wife, preserving records of a family important to the region. These remarkable stone carvings show the significance of this family through the ages.
