The Youth of Agde

The Youth of Agde measures 1.4 meters in height and represents a young man with features similar to those found in ancient Greek sculptures.

Marine archaeologists discovered this bronze statue in September 1964 while exploring the bed of the Herault river on the southeastern coast of France.

The statue demonstrates the influence of Greek artistry through its craftsmanship and depicts characteristics associated with the renowned sculptor Lysippos' style.

The statue remains on permanent display at the Musée de l'Éphèbe, where visitors can examine its details and learn about ancient Mediterranean maritime trade.

The lower sections of both arms and feet were separated from the main statue, with one foot recovered 600 meters away six months after the initial discovery.
