Bunker 638, World War II bunker museum in La Tamarissière, France

Bunker 638 is a World War II bunker in Agde that served as a field hospital, containing nine rooms across approximately 220 square meters. The spaces are furnished with original equipment and show both medical and living areas from that era.

After the war, the bunker was abandoned and deteriorated until it was later restored and opened to the public. Today it documents German military construction along the French Mediterranean coast.

The site reveals daily life under occupation through personal objects and furnishings still visible in the rooms today. It shows how local residents and German soldiers coexisted during this period.

Access is available during limited hours, so it's best to check ahead and book a tour in advance. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the floor can be uneven in some areas.

This is the only publicly accessible example of a Type 638 infirmary bunker, preserving the architecture of this specific bunker class. It stands as a rare testimony to this style of military construction along the Mediterranean.
