Îlot du Diable

This small rocky formation lies near Roscanvel on the Crozon Peninsula, connected to Fort de la Fraternité by a causeway bridge that allows passage across the water.

The site originated as a 17th-century coastal battery with four 12-pound cannons, later upgraded with a searchlight installation in 1884 and a reinforced concrete casemate built between 1912 and 1913.

The islet embodies Brittany's extensive maritime defense heritage, representing centuries of coastal protection strategies and naval surveillance systems that shaped regional military architecture throughout different historical periods.

Access to the islet remains restricted due to its military installations, though visitors can observe the fortifications from designated coastal viewpoints along Roscanvel's shoreline or through authorized boat tours in the area.

The concrete casemate features marine pebbles embedded in its ceiling for reinforcement, and the facility included a distinctive toilet structure that discharged directly into the sea below through an ingenious opening system.
