Pont Saint-Ludovic

Pont Saint-Ludovic is an international road bridge spanning the river at the border between Ventimiglia and Menton, directly connecting the two towns. It is made of concrete sections and was built to handle regular vehicle traffic.

Construction began in 1959 and was completed in two phases: the Italian section finished in 1964 and the French section in 1965. The bridge marked a new willingness to connect European nations after the war.

The bridge links two coastal towns facing each other and became a symbol of closeness between Italy and France. Today visitors see people crossing daily between the countries, showing how natural this border crossing has become.

The bridge is easily reached from both the Italian and French banks, and crossing on foot or by car is possible at any time. Visitors should be aware this is an actual border line and identification documents may be needed.

On the Italian side stands a large colorful sign reading 'Porta d'Italia', marking the bridge as Italy's gateway. This symbol provides visitors with a striking first impression when entering the country.
