The Réserve naturelle nationale du Bagnas spans 561 hectares of wetlands, including ponds, lagoons, salt meadows, and diverse Mediterranean ecosystems between Agde and Marseillan.
The site transformed from salt production facilities to a protected natural area in 1983 through concentrated efforts of local citizens against urban development plans.
ADENA association manages educational programs and scientific research activities throughout the reserve, connecting visitors with Mediterranean coastal wetland preservation methods.
Visitors must schedule guided tours through ADENA at the Maison du Bagnas, located on Route de Sète, with activities available Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
The reserve maintains specific observation points along the Thau lagoon near Phare des Onglous, where visitors can watch numerous bird species in their natural habitat.
