Chapel of the Oblates

Chapel of the Oblates is a church building in Aix-en-Provence featuring an elliptical dome supported by composite pilasters as its main structural feature. A grand exterior staircase provides access to the principal facade.

Built between 1695 and 1701 from designs by Thomas Veyrier, the structure rose on land formerly occupied by a Carmelite convent. The religious site had been established on this location since 1625.

This building holds deep meaning for the Oblate order, who established their mission center here in the early 18th century. Today it remains a place where their community gathers for worship and fellowship.

The building is accessible to visitors during worship services held on weekdays in the morning hours. It is wise to inquire beforehand about times when the public can visit outside of services.

Two original altar bas-reliefs designed by Thomas Veyrier are now displayed at the Tapestry Museum of Aix-en-Provence rather than in their original location. These artworks offer insight into the original decorative vision of the chapel.
