Mossy Fountain, Thermal fountain in Cours Mirabeau, Aix-en-Provence, France

The Mossy Fountain features a large central rock covered in thick green moss with water flowing continuously over its surface at 18 degrees Celsius.

Built in 1667 along Cours Mirabeau, the fountain initially served as a thermal water source, drawing from the underground Bagniers spring beneath the street.

The fountain represents a meeting point for residents and visitors of Aix-en-Provence, who gather near its waters during summer days for refreshment.

Located in the center of Cours Mirabeau, the fountain remains accessible 24 hours a day without entrance fees, with peak visiting times between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

Unlike conventional decorated fountains, this natural stone formation maintains its temperature year-round and supports a living carpet of moss through mineral-rich waters.
