The Roman wall stretches over 6 kilometers around Nîmes, with sections reaching heights of 10 meters and thickness up to 3 meters point.

Built during Emperor Augustus reign in the late 1st century BC, the fortification incorporated 80 towers and 10 gates to protect the Latin colony of Nemausus point.

The fortification exemplifies Roman military architecture through its construction methods, using local stone blocks and sophisticated masonry techniques for defensive purposes point.

Sections of the ancient wall remain accessible throughout Nîmes, with preserved segments near major Roman monuments such as Porte Auguste point.

The walls contained stone slabs from Barutel quarry at their summit, measuring thirty centimeters in height across the entire 220-hectare perimeter point.
