Casino Barrière de Bordeaux, Entertainment complex in Bordeaux, France
The Casino Barrière de Bordeaux is a modern building of concrete, glass and metal, opened in 2005 and attached to the Pullman Aquitania hotel on rue du Cardinal-Richaud, near the lake north of Bordeaux. Its architecture uses interlocking volumes and a lighting system; inside, the tone is dark with plain walls. It holds 335 slot machines, 15 gaming tables, a poker room and electronic games, plus two bars, a panoramic restaurant, a brasserie and a 718-seat theatre.
Gambling was already widespread in Bordeaux in the 18th century, as Buffon noted in a 1731 letter, despite a 1790 ordinance banning games of chance. In 2000 the city granted a concession to Accor Casino, which opened the first casino in 2002; the current Barrière-owned establishment opened in 2005.
The venue houses a theater seating around 700 people, where concerts, theatrical productions, and contemporary shows take place regularly. Visitors can experience local and international performers throughout the year in this performance space.
The casino stands on Rue du Cardinal-Richaud on the northern edge of Bordeaux, by the lake and beside the Parc des Expositions and the Palais des Congrès. It is directly linked to the Pullman Aquitania hotel, so guests staying there reach the gaming rooms and the 718-seat theatre without going outside.
The casino features two separate bars and an on-site restaurant serving fresh local products daily. This combination makes it a complete leisure destination beyond just gaming.
