The bronze equestrian statue of Louis XIV stands at the center of Peyrou Promenade, measuring twice the natural size of a horse and rider.
The current statue, installed in 1838, replaced an original version from 1718 that was destroyed during the French Revolution in 1792.
Jean Baptiste Joseph Debay and Auguste-Jean-Marie Carbonneaux created this monument following designs by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, representing French monarchical heritage.
The statue remains open for viewing throughout the year, with enhanced visibility during morning hours when sunlight illuminates the eastern-facing bronze figure.
The pedestal displays a Latin inscription 'EVERTERAT FUROR, RESTITUIT PIETAS', added during the 1814 foundation stone ceremony by the Count of Artois.
