Château de Ballaison, Medieval fortress in Ballaison, France.
The castle stands on a hill overlooking the Vions stream, featuring architectural elements from both medieval fortifications and 19th-century renovations.
First mentioned in 1138, the fortress served as the center of the Ballaison lordship under the Counts of Geneva until its destruction in 1591.
The site represents the evolution of regional power structures, from medieval defensive stronghold to 19th-century residential castle built by Ernest de Boigne.
The castle grounds are accessible through Impasse de Thénières, with information and visit arrangements available through the local tourism office.
The location contained two separate castles during the 13th century, one belonging to the Count of Geneva and another to the Lord of Ballaison.
