Porte de la Mercerie, Medieval gate in Rocamadour, France.

The Porte de la Mercerie features a pointed arch design with narrow keystones and a barrel-vaulted ceiling integrated into the limestone cliff face.

Built during the 13th century, this fortified gate formed part of Rocamadour's defensive system, protecting the religious city against potential invasions.

The gate's name reflects its location near the former merchant quarter, where traders exchanged goods during medieval times along the pilgrimage route.

Visitors can access the gate through the Rue de la Mercerie, which runs along the southwestern cliff edge of the religious complex.

The semi-troglodytic tower attached to the gate incorporates two levels with an extremely narrow lintel door on the first floor.
