The château de la Rouërie stands north of the village of Saint-Ouen-la-Rouërie in Val-Couesnon, Ille-et-Vilaine, near the Manche border. Its long stone facade has a slightly projecting central section under a grey slate roof, with two rows of tall white-framed windows, dormers and two chimneys. Climbing greenery with red flowers covers the left half; the right half shows bare grey and brown stone. A central arched doorway is reached by a short flight of steps.

The château de la Rouërie stands on the foundations of an 11th-century stronghold and was built in several campaigns, mainly in 1624, 1730 and 1824. In the 18th century it belonged to Armand Tuffin de la Rouërie, a hero of the American War of Independence and founder of the Breton Chouannerie in 1792. His family sold the estate in 1813 to Georges-Bourges du Pré de Saint-Maur, and in 1822 it passed to Aimé Nicolas Barbier, whose descendants, the Barbier du Mans de Chalais family, still own it. It has been listed as a monument historique since 7 August 1996.

The name comes from the Tuffin de la Rouërie family; Armand Tuffin, born here in 1751, fought in the American War of Independence and in 1792 founded the Breton chouannerie. The estate passed in 1822 to the Barbier family, shipowners and aldermen of Rennes, whose descendants still own it.

The château is a private estate still owned by the Barbier du Mans de Chalais family, so it is not open as a public visitor site. It stands north of the village of Saint-Ouen-la-Rouërie, in the commune of Val-Couesnon, along the border with the Manche department. Access to the grounds and interior is by arrangement with the owners only.
