Porte du pont Perrin

The Porte du pont Perrin is a town gate in Déols featuring substantial stonework with a vaulted passageway and medieval fortification details. The structure maintains its original archway design, which once served as a controlled entry point and still displays its sturdy construction.

The gate emerged during the medieval period and was documented by the 15th century as one of three main entrances to Déols. From 1796 to 1830, it served a second purpose as both a town hall and courthouse.

The gate takes its name from the nearby bridge structure and shows how medieval towns controlled entry and protected themselves. You can see how the fortified passage was designed to manage access to the city.

The gate is located on Rue du Pont Perrin and is easily reached on foot from other nearby heritage sites. It is a freely accessible outdoor structure that can be visited anytime.

A courtroom was installed beneath the vaulted passage, showing how the space was adapted for new functions. This conversion during the Revolutionary period was unusual for a medieval structure.
