The Gouf de Capbreton is a deep submarine canyon located off the coast of Capbreton, France.
This chasm has been known to humans since at least the 18th century when it was first charted by local fishermen.
It's known among locals as 'The Abyss' and has become part of the town's folklore over the years.
Due to strong currents, it's not recommended for recreational sailing or swimming.
Unlike most submarine canyons which are usually extensions of major rivers, the Gouf de Capbreton isn't linked to any river.
