Château de Beaugency

Château de Beaugency, Medieval fortress in Beaugency, France.

Château de Beaugency is a medieval castle in Beaugency featuring a distinctive hexagonal tower, thick stone walls, and a central courtyard. Multiple defensive structures are linked by covered arcades that organize the layout and create covered passages throughout the complex.

The castle was built in the 11th century by the Lords of Beaugency to control the Loire River crossing. Later it passed to the French Crown and the Dukes of Orleans, becoming an important stronghold in the region.

The castle now houses a Digital Art Center where contemporary exhibitions blend modern technology with the medieval walls and spaces. Visitors experience how historical architecture serves as a stage for multimedia art installations.

The castle is open most days of the week, though some days are closed to visitors. Plan to spend several hours exploring the different rooms, towers, and the courtyard at a leisurely pace.

The castle uses digital art installations and lighting effects to reinterpret its medieval architecture in surprising ways. This blend of ancient stone and modern technology creates an unexpected experience that most visitors do not anticipate when entering a historic fortress.
