Plage des Grands Sables

Plage des Grands Sables is located on the northern coast of Groix Island and features light-colored sand with gentle slopes. The water is shallow and the beach extends for a considerable distance with stable sand banks.

The beach became a destination for mainland visitors when Groix gained importance as an island destination in the 20th century. The long history of settlement by fishermen shaped the maritime identity of the location.

The beach serves as a gathering place for both locals and visitors who appreciate the island's quieter pace of life. The surrounding villages shape the atmosphere with their modest, seafaring way of living.

The beach is reachable via walking paths from the village, and parking is available nearby. During summer, lifeguards are on duty, and the beach offers sheltered coves with less wind exposure.

The beach is one of the few larger sandy beaches in this region with a north-facing orientation, which sets it apart from the typical southwestern exposure of other beaches nearby. This special position provides natural protection from the dominant Atlantic winds.
