Pic de Tarbésou, Mountain peak in Ascou and Mijanès, France
The Pic de Tarbésou is a mountain peak in the Pyrenees that rises to 2364 meters between the municipalities of Ascou and Mijanès. From the top, visitors can see views across to the Mont Valier and Canigou mountain ranges.
The slopes have served as traditional grazing lands for shepherds from the Ascou and Mijanès valleys for centuries. This long history of pastoral use shaped the area and its connection to local communities.
The summit marks a natural boundary between the Ascou and Mijanès communities and holds importance in local mountain life. Shepherds from both valleys have used these grazing grounds as a vital part of their way of living for generations.
The hiking route starts at a base point at 1950 meters and follows clearly marked trails through the mountain terrain. This walk requires moderate physical fitness and takes several hours for the round trip.
The eastern slopes offer winter sports opportunities for skiers, while the nearby Rabassoles lakes create a mirror reflection of the peak during summer months. These two seasonal experiences give the place different character throughout the year.
