La Maison des Loups, Wolf sanctuary in Orlu, France
La Maison des Loups is a sanctuary for different wolf packs made up of animals from Europe, Canada, and Arctic regions. The grounds spread across several hectares of forest, allowing visitors to observe the wolves in spacious enclosures.
This sanctuary came into being to protect wolves and help people understand them better. It grew into an important place for research and education in the Ariège region.
Daily feeding sessions show how wolves interact within their packs and communicate with each other in complex ways. Visitors can watch the animals go about their routines and see how individual wolves fit into their family groups.
The sanctuary sits in a wooded setting and welcomes visitors mainly on weekends, with the morning being the best time to see the wolves when they are most active. Good walking shoes matter since paths can be uneven and you will spend time on your feet.
A special viewing tunnel lets you watch wolves and their cubs from very close without disturbing the animals. A comparison path also lets you test your running speed against the wolves and realize how fast these creatures truly are.
