Université Paul Valéry. Musée des moulages

The Musée des Moulages at Paul Valéry University is an art museum holding over 11,000 objects, including plaster casts of ancient and medieval sculptures alongside original antique pieces. The collection brings together reproductions and authentic artworks in one location.

The museum was founded in 1890 when a French program supplied universities with copies of ancient artworks for teaching purposes. This initiative helped bring historical art to students across the country.

The collection displays reproductions from Greek, Roman, and Egyptian periods that serve as teaching tools for students today. Visitors can observe how these casts make art history and archaeology accessible to learners.

The museum is located near the Saint-Éloi tram station on Line 1, making it easy to reach by public transportation. The building underwent comprehensive renovation from 2009 to 2015 and now has modern facilities for visitors.

The collection holds the official status of a Historical Monument, making it the only university museum in France with this protection designation. This recognition highlights the importance of the collection to the nation's cultural heritage.
