Grotte des Fées

Grotte des Fées is a natural cave entrance in Arcy-sur-Cure featuring limestone formations and underground galleries. The passage extends through roughly 500 meters of rock, with illuminated pathways revealing mineral deposits and stone formations along the walls.

This cave is part of the prehistoric complex of Arcy-sur-Cure, where archaeological evidence shows human occupation across different periods. Finds from the site reveal that people used these caverns for shelter and other purposes over millennia.

The name comes from local folklore about fairies said to dwell in this underground space. Visitors encounter mineral deposits and water sounds that contribute to the cave's mysterious character.

Wear sturdy shoes with good grip since the ground is uneven and slippery in places. The cave maintains a cool temperature year-round, so bring a light jacket regardless of the season outside.

At the end of the tour, visitors encounter an underground pool fed by a waterfall. This water feature forms naturally within the cave system and creates a memorable sight in the depths below.
