Valserhône, commune in Ain department, France
Valserhône is a commune in eastern Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in the Ain department where the Valserine and Rhône rivers meet. The town center is small and features modern neighborhoods alongside older areas, with a primary school, secondary schools, and services like a town hall located on Rue de la République.
The town was formed in 2019 when three small villages merged into one, combining their services and shared spaces after previously operating independently. The area was shaped for centuries by farming and fishing before being connected by rail, which enabled travel to larger cities like Lyon and Geneva.
Valserhône takes its name from the meeting of two rivers, the Valserine and the Rhône, which define the town's character. Residents, called Valserhônois and Valserhônoises, gather regularly at the Thursday market on Place Carnot to buy fresh produce and chat with neighbors.
The town is easy to reach by car via the highway or main road and has a train station for connections to larger cities. Geneva's international airport lies less than one hour away by car, offering convenient connections for further travel.
Local legend says the quietly flowing Valserine river served as a hidden refuge for residents during troubled times in the past. The river's peaceful flow and surrounding woods still echo stories of shelter and safety from earlier eras.
