Châtillon-en-Diois

Châtillon-en-Diois stands as a medieval village perched at 570 meters altitude on a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley, featuring narrow streets called viols and numerous fountains decorated with haiku poems.

The village preserves ramparts built during the 13th and 14th centuries, an 18th-century clock tower, and a consular house dating from 1533, representing its rich medieval heritage and defensive past.

Recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France since July 2021, Châtillon-en-Diois offers a heritage trail with fourteen stations and nineteen fountains adorned with contemporary haiku poetry.

The commune provides a municipal library, sports facilities including tennis courts and swimming pool, camping grounds, and regularly hosts local markets and cultural events for residents and visitors.

The village features nineteen fountains each decorated with a unique haiku created by a local writing workshop, combining traditional hydraulic heritage with contemporary poetry in an original artistic approach.
