La Méca, Cultural center near Saint-Jean train station, Bordeaux, France

La Méca spans 18,000 square meters and features a continuous loop design with limestone cladding that connects different cultural programs around a central void.

The center, designed by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, opened in 2019 to unite three regional cultural institutions focused on visual arts, performing arts, and literature.

The building houses FRAC for contemporary art exhibitions, OARA for theatrical performances, and ALCA for cinema and literature activities in dedicated spaces.

Visitors can access the center Tuesday through Sunday from 13:00 to 18:30, with extended hours until 21:00 on the third Thursday of each month.

The building incorporates a giant periscope in its restaurant, allowing diners to observe activities in the 1,100-square-meter outdoor urban space below.
