Château de Gicon

Château de Gicon is a stone castle near Chusclan overlooking the Rhône Valley. It features a central tower and defensive walls situated on a hillside at roughly 245 meters elevation.

The castle was built between 1200 and 1260 on a Celtic oppidum site. It served as a strategic watch point to monitor regional communication routes.

The fortress connects to local wine producers who have been involved in its restoration since the 1970s. This link shows how regional products and heritage intertwine in this area.

You can reach the castle via a marked path from Chusclan or through a forest road from Vénéjan. The access is fairly straightforward if you follow the signs from either village.

Archaeological digs uncovered a Roman tombstone from the 2nd century and ancient Celtic walls integrated into the northern fortifications. These finds show how different time periods layered at this location.
