Place de la Canourgue, Historic square in central Montpellier, France
Place de la Canourgue features mansions from the 17th century and measures 100 meters in length by 35 meters in width.
The square originated between 1601 and 1629 after abandoning construction plans for a new cathedral on the ruins of an old church.
The Unicorn Fountain, installed in 1773 and relocated to the square in 1863, displays marine horses and battle scene reliefs.
The location stands 1,051 meters from Montpellier Saint-Roch train station, requiring a 20-minute walk through the city streets.
Archaeological excavations uncovered original oratory benitiers and tombstones beneath the square's current surface.
